While I was in Da Nang for a month, I decided to take a weekend trip to Hoi An. The ancient town is only 45 minutes south of Da Nang, so it was an easy ride.

5 Ways to Get From Da Nang to Hoi An
You’ve got a few good ways to get there, each with its own perks.
I booked a private car through my apartment complex (the Hem Hotel). They charged me 400,000 VND ($16 USD), and for two people, with one bag each, it was fast and convenient.
Here are the 5 ways to get from Da Nang to Hoi An:

Grab Ride Share
Grab is the easiest and most comfortable way if you prefer not to book through a private driver. From Da Nang to Hoi An by taxi takes around 45 minutes.
Prices usually range from 350,000 to 500,000 VND (that’s about $15 to $20 USD). Grab, Vietnam’s version of Uber, might be a little cheaper than a private car, and gives you price transparency upfront.
You also have peace of mind watching the map on the app, to ensure you are going to the correct place.
Best for: Families, travelers with luggage, or those arriving late at night.
Pro Tip for Wifi:
To stay connected to the internet while traveling, I use an E-sim called Airalo, in conjunction with a local sim. You can purchase the e-sim at any time, as long as your phone is E-sim compatible.
Private Car Transfer
Hiring a private driver is very popular in Vietnam and it’s not usually much more expensive then calling a Grab car. You can book them online or through hotels.
Prices range from 400,000 to 600,000 VND, depending on the vehicle. Bonus: Some drivers offer a quick stop at the Marble Mountains on the way.
Best for: Couples, groups, or those looking for a seamless ride.

Bus from Da Nang to Hoi An
Yes, you can take a local bus. Bus number 01 runs from Da Nang’s central bus station to Hoi An, and it takes about an hour.
It’s crazy cheap—only around 30,000 VND (just over $1). But it’s not super fast and doesn’t have space for big suitcases.
Use the Dana Bus App to see the schedule, as well as where to purchase tickets.
Best for: Budget travelers who aren’t in a rush and travel light.
Travel Insurance
I suggest using Safety Wing for travel insurance when traveling abroad. I have found their rates to be the best coverage and they have great customer service.
Shuttle Bus
These are aimed at tourists and run on set schedules. They’re a solid middle ground—more comfortable than local buses, but not as pricey as taxis.
You’ll pay about 100,000 to 150,000 VND per person. Many hostels and hotels can book this for you. I was not able to figure out where the shuttle bus picks up, so definitely ask your accommodations for help.
Best for: Solo travelers or small groups who want to experience a smaller bus ride.

Motorbike or Scooter
You can rent a scooter in Da Nang and ride to Hoi An yourself. Rental is cheap—about 120,000 to 150,000 VND ($5- $6 USD) per day.
The route is easy to navigate, and you’ll see beautiful coastline views. Personally, I didn’t feel comfortable driving a scooter in Vietnam.
In Thailand, I will drive a scooter, but not here. The drivers honk constantly and cut each other off, so it’s not very peaceful. But maybe you are an experienced driver and like the chaos!
Best for: Confident riders who want total freedom.
