My trip to Morocco was an exhilarating and amazing ten days! However, I am so glad that I prepared in advance for the trip.
Below are 10 essential items for what to pack for Morocco that made my trip more comfortable. I separated the list between items you will need every day and items you will need specifically for the desert.
These items will help you while you stay in the desert, survive daily walks through the cities, and drive around the country.
My full Morocco guides are located at the bottom of the post and I am always happy to answer any questions!
Morocco Packing List: Daily Use
Water Bottle
As you may have seen from other posts, I take my HydroFlask bottle everywhere with me. It slides perfectly into the side of my backpack and is super durable.
I fill up the bottle with ice and let it melt throughout the day. The water stays cold all day. The lid that comes with it is great for travel, however I also purchased this lid for workouts.
Buy Your Water Bottle HereDay Pack
This Waterfly Day Pack is perfect for Morocco as it only has one strap, instead of two, keeping your back cool. And it allows you to swing the bag around to the front of your chest.
There are just enough compartments to hold everything from your camera to your water bottle, to any items you need for daily use.

To stay connected to the internet while traveling, I use an E-sim called Airalo. You can purchase the e-sim at any time, as long as your phone is E-sim compatible.
Tissues
Seriously, bring tissues everywhere you go. Not all restaurants or even hotels will provide toilet paper.
I found this cylinder tube that is made for a cup holder in a car that worked really well. I kept it in the second water bottle holder of my day pack. You will need tissues as a napkin as well, as those are usually non-existent.

Scarf
This scarf will keep sand out of your mouth when riding the camels or if a sand storm comes through. It comes as one size fits all and you can wrap it in a few different ways.
This is the scarf that my friends wore. Make sure to get this sturdy scarf and not like the one I have in the image above, it was too loose and kept flying off!

Harem Pant
You will see a lot of harem-style pants for sale in Morocco for cheaper prices however some are not made well. I bought one and the band broke on the second day.
I suggest buying clothing for Morocco, specifically pants, in advance. They will be worn a lot, especially by females, as they need to keep their legs covered, even in 105-degree heat. These pants help your legs stay cool by allowing air to flow through.
These are the ones that I wore that I bought in Morocco and they broke the next day.
Buy Your Pants HereTravel Insurance
I suggest using Safety Wing for travel insurance when traveling abroad. I have found their rates to be the best coverage and they have great customer service.
Sunscreen
You’d be surprised how many people forget to pack sunscreen. You must protect your skin especially when you are in the desert. There is no shade to hide from the sun.
I like the individual packets better than a bottle, they don’t run the risk of leaking all over your clothes and are easy to take with you on excursions to re-apply. This brand is a little more expensive then others, but it’s less greasy and doesn’t make my face break out.
Buy Travel Sunscreen Packets HereHand Sanitizer
Most bathrooms will not have running water, soap, or towels to clean your hands. Don’t just bring one, bring a few, you will be sure to use them.
I like the individual packets as I can store them in different parts of my bag and no risk of it leaking. This pack comes with 160, but I only took one small ziplock bag of them with me and it fit easily in my backpack.
Buy Hand Sanitizer Wipes HereBody Wipes
This is the one item I didn’t pack, but friends of mine did and I was SO grateful they had them when we were in the desert. There was no place to wash up (understandably) but I hadn’t even thought about bringing something to freshen myself up.
I tested out these wipes that are meant for full body coverage and I liked how they worked. It gets the job done and makes you free fresh after a long day riding camels.

Plastic Shower Caps (Lens Covers)
Not for showering actually. These caps come in handy for keeping sand off your camera or smartphone while taking pictures. You have to hold the cap tight over the camera, and when a sandstorm comes through, you will be grateful you protected your camera’s lens.
I packed three, one for each day in the desert and it worked out perfectly.
Buy Lense Covers HereCleaning Cloth
You need this cloth to wipe the sand off your camera lens, phone, and glasses. I packed two of them and that was enough. Sand gets EVERYWHERE so even with the plastic cap for protection as you take pictures, sand will still find it’s way into your valuables so make sure to pack some.
